Kalam




Kalam, one of the beautiful and worth-seeing places on the planet, is situated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is like a real gemstone of nature. The beautiful lush greenery, flowing streams, marvelous hills; all present an astonishing view. One could just stand there and enjoy the beauty for years.

The valley of Kalam is situated at a distance of 62 miles from Mingora, a commercial city of Swat. It lies on the upper north side of Swat along with the Swat River. Kalam, an enchanting place, is located among hilly mountains, lush green fields, dense forests, mesmerizing meadows, gushy lakes, streams and waterfalls. The origin of Swat River is Kalam.

It is a vast and spacious valley of Swat with altitude of nearly 2,000 meters overhead the sea level. It provides little upland for cultivation. This is the end point of fine and carpeted roads, the gravel and unpaved roads starts and lead to the valleys of Utror and Usho. There are many peaks and hills which can be viewed from there. Among these captivating peaks, the most prominent one is Falaksar with the elevation of about 19,416 feet. Falaksar is mostly topped with the white snow. There is another anonymous peak with the altitude of approximately 20,000 feet.
   
The top tourist areas in Kalam include Ushu, Utror, Gabral and Matiltan. Ushu, a marvelous hilly area with the height of 7,550 feet, is located in the north east side of Kalam with a distance of about 8 kilo meters. The unpaved roads lead to Ushu. After Ushu, Matiltan is situated at a distance of nearly 11 kilo meter from Kalam. The most prominent peak of Kalam, Falaksar can be viewed. Thick fields, splendid peaks and glaciers reside in this area. Another worth seeing place, Utror, is located at a distance of 16 kilo meter. The hill covered with white snow and surrounded by Kundol lake present an amazing view for tourists. Then, at a distance of 20 kilo meter from Kalam valley, Gabral is located which presents a charming view with lush greenery, lofty peaks and awesome lakes. The speciality of Gabral is Swati trout fish.

Kalam presents humid and oppressive weather in temperate and hot climates. 13.4°C is the regular temperature of Kalam valley. The annual rainfall is approximately 639mm. In dry times, there is a lot of rainfall in Kalam and the reason is the vast and splendid forest and meadows. The driest month is November with the rainfall of about 15 mm. While the moist and wettest month is April which has approximate precipitation of 93 mm. The coolest month of the year is January and its regular is 1.5 °C. July is the warmest month and its normal temperature is 24.1 °C.
