Naltar Valley




Naltar Valley is located in one of the administrative regions of Pakistan, Gilgit Baltistan, in the district of Gilgit. Because of the historic hilly view, Naltar Valley is considered as a timber and woody territory. It is also known as the home for “tastiest potatoes in the world”. Numerous marvelous hilly areas like Hunza, Gilgit and Nomal; reside near Naltar Valley. The distance from Gilgit to Naltar Valley is about 40 kilo meters.

Skiing is very famous in this valley. There is a Naltar Ski Resort which is situated in Karakorum mountain range in the territory of Gilgit Baltistan. The altitude of this resort is about 9680 feet. It is on the north-west side of Gilgit with a distance of 40 kilo meters. In this Naltar Ski Resort, various ski competitions are performed from time to time.

Nomal is the chief village of Naltar Valley which is also located between Gilgit and Naltar. A route from Nomal also leads to China via “The Silk Route”.The two major villages of Naltar Valley are Naltar Bala and Naltar Pine. They both are located on the side of Gilgit tehsil. Naltar Pine is 34 kilo meters away from Gilgit while Naltar Bala is 40 kilo meters. A same road leads from Gilgit leads to Naltar Pine and Naltar Bala. Initially, this road is metallic till Naltar Pine than it is non-metallic till Naltar Bala.

In 2007, near Naltar Pine, the government has initiated an operation and started to create a hydropower plant to cope with the power and electricity needs of the entire area.

Education scope is very low in Naltar Valley. The two main schools of Naltar Valley are NLI public school and Government high school. Proper steps for the promotion of education are not being taken by the Government.

The three major Naltar Lakes are Fish Lake, Multi Ends Lake and Turbid Lake. Locally, they are pronounced as Chimo Bari, Chakar Bari and Bodolok Bari, respectively. Collectively, these lakes are referred as Bashkiri Lakes. These lakes are 13 kilo meters away from Naltar Bala. The same non-metaled road from Naltar Bala leads to these lakes. A beautiful water course accompanies this road. During winters, all the roads are blocked due to snow, so it is very difficult to reach lakes.

Naltar Valley is considered as a pure beauty away from the noise, pollution and fastness of other regions of Gilgit Baltistan. The sun setting view is astonishing, presenting a very delightful landscape. The snowy hilly peaks and the silence of night combined with the stars of the sky present an astounding environment.
