One of
the most enthralling and awe-inspiring attractions of Pakistan is Chitral,
which is located in the northern side of the province of Pakistan, Khyber
Pakhunkhwa. This splendid city is considered as the capital of Chitral State
since 1969 and now, the capital of an administrative District, “Chitral” which
is the largest district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It falls in the division of
Malakand. Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral are connected with a border from the
east while from north and west, it shares border with Kunar and the
Afghanistan. From south, Swat and Dir; the two provinces of KPK, are linked
with Chitral.
The
total area covered by the city is nearly 57 kilo meters square with the
population of about 4, 47,362. Pashto, Urdu, Kalash, Gujari and Khowar are the
common languages of the people of Chitral. Persian is common in only Madaglasht
Valley. The altitude of this city is approximately 1500 meters. The
Mediterranean climate of Chitral turns hot in summers while harsh and cold in
winters.

culture of Chitral depicts the impact of Turkish, Greek, Iranian and Tatar
culture. The strong musical tradition is followed in Chitral. Chitrali Sitar is
the most common instrument in their gatherings and occasions. The people of
“Kho”, the land of Chitral, are very hospitable and generous.
Hiking,
trekking, mountaineering and fishing are the hobbies of most of the peoples of
Chitral. As the temperature is very warm in the start of summer, so the ideal
time to visit and enjoy this valley is from July till September.
