Nagar Valley is, no doubt, considered as a paradise on our
planet, Earth. The spectacular valley is located in the Nagar district of
Gilgit Baltistan, besides Hunza Valley. This is further divided in two tehsils
i.e. Nagar 1 and Nagar 2. Nagar Valley just lie on the bank of Nagar River. In
Urdu, sometimes it is referred as Nagar Khas. Formerly, it is known as Broshal.
It was the capital of former state of Nagar.
In previous times, Nagar was a princely state which had
survived for 1200 years. About 1200 years or more, an indigenous Mir governed
over the masses of Nagar. Than in 1974, it was adjourned by Zulfiqar Ali
Bhutto. The state was indicated as a liberated demonstration to the Northern
Areas Council. In 2008, it was acknowledged as the Legislative Assembly Gilgit
Baltistan.
Its distance from Hunza Valley is about 9.3 miles whereas,
from Gilgit city it takes 65 miles to reach Nagar Valley. The altitude of Nagar
Khas is nearly 238 meters. One of the most prominent highways, Karakorum highway,
passes Nagar Khas linking China and Pakistan through Khunjerab Pass.
Sikandarabad, Minapin, Hoper, Jaffarabad, Nilt, Chalt, and Gulmit
are some of the major villages of Nagar Khas. The two well-spoken languages of
Nagar Khas are Burushaski and Shina. But, English and Urdu are also extensively
used for the tourists.
Nagar Khas is considered as the home to peaks as more than
30 hills and peaks are situated in it. The Valley is a renowned spot of
attraction for a huge number of tourists due to its hilly and mountainous peaks
like Golden Peak, BAR, Hopper Valley, Rakaposhi, Sumayar Valley, Ultra, Rush
Peak and Diran Peak which present a mesmerizing scenery. Among these, Rush Lake
is considered as the high altitude lake of Pakistan and also the 27th
uppermost lake of the world. From the view of Nagar Khas, Rakaposhi is nearly
7788 meters.
Nagar Khas is recognized for its appealing scenery, delicious
fruits, enchanting glaciers, revolutionary monuments, delightful leaf fall, adjoining
fields, hypnotizing landscape, hilly peaks and also for its fluctuating colors
in different seasons. The status and significance of Nagar is similar to that
of Hunza.
In summers, the weather is extremely pleasant. The average
temperature from the mid of April till the last of September is 13 degree.
Whereas, in winters, the climate become unpredictable and cold beyond limits. -14
degree is the minimum temperature during October to the March.
The literacy rate of Nagar valley is nearly 59 % for the
females whereas more than 90 % of men are consider as literate.
The whole part of Nagar was stated as a community park to
stop the hunting of endangered animals which is now the entertainment point for
locals as well for the tourists.
